Cadillac Racing Places Fourth, Fifth In 2013 Pirelli World Challenge Opener At St. Petersburg
Defending Driver’s Champion Johnny O’Connell, Andy Pilgrim and Cadillac Racing could have had a better season opener during the first race of the Pirelli World Challenge Championships Honda Grand Prix of St. Petersburg, placing fourth and fifth respectively in round one.
Round two favored a little better for O’Connell, who placed third after Sunday’s second round of racing in the No. 3 Cadillac Racing CTS-V. That marks 16 top-three finishes for the Georgia native. Pilgrim’s result was unchanged from the first, recording back-to-back fifth-place finishes in the No. 8 CTS-V.
After the two races, the point standings have Audi driver James Sofronas as the GTS leader with 259 points, ahead of Volvo driver Alex Figge (207), Volvo driver Randy Pobst and Cadillac Racing’s O’Connell (each with 190), and Pilgrim (165). Audi and Volvo each scored 17 points in the Manufacturers’ Championship, while Cadillac is in third with 10.
The next race is April 19, at the Streets of Long Beach in California.
